I got the following tips from a book entitled ” Spirit-Controlled Temperament” authored by Tim Lahaye:
1. Face your weaknesses as sin. Just because escapism is a common practice of our day, that is no excuse for Christians to indulge in it. Be a realist. If you know Christ, you can face anything.
2. Confess your sin every time it occurs. Your prayer life is short-circuited as long as there is unconfessed sin in your life. If you do not face your selfishness, anger and fear as sin, your prayer effectiveness will be curtailed. But that prayer can be reestablished the moment confession is sought.
3. Ask your loving heavenly Father to take away this habit. Victory over fear and anger and selfishness is the will of God for you. Therefore, when we ask God to cure our habitual weaknesses, we can be confident that He will.
4. Believe God has given the victory. We need to rely upon the promises of God and expect His victory. Commit your way unto the Lord instead of worrying about things.
5. Ask for the filling of the Holy Spirit. If you have already faced your weaknesses as sin, confessed them, and asked the heavenly Father by faith for victory, then why not prepare your life for service by asking for His filling again, believing that God has promised to answer your prayer in his will.
6. Walk in the Spirit and abide in Christ. The “abiding life” is the “spirit-filled life, and this is the way the Lord Jesus wants us to live.
